While conflict in Afghanistan has been a central American security concern for more than two decades, the past few years have been exceptionally difficult for the Afghan people. The Taliban regime has imposed severe restrictions on human rights and have made it nearly impossible to provide aid to civilians. Among the few remaining organizations actively resisting the Taliban is the National Resistance Front, led by Ahmad Massoud. Joining us virtually, Massoud shares his perspective on a variety of issues and emerging threats in Afghanistan, such as the international community’s pressure on the Taliban, future models of governance and power shifts within the regime, and what role the U.S. and its partners should play in the region.
