G20 summit highlights: World leaders meet, hold talks and attend gala on day 1

The G20 summit in Osaka was filled with smiles, kisses, and awkward handshakes between world leaders on their first day of meetings as they came together to discuss global issues such as trade and the digital economy. Many leaders met on the sidelines in between meetings, including an icy interaction between U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May and Russia President Vladimir Putin, and a sit-down between U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin, where Trump poked fun at Russia meddling in the 2020 election.

The leaders of the Group of 20 capped off the evening with a cultural show near Osaka Castle as they gathered for dinner after a long day of meetings with a toast from Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
