The Telangana High Court has taken a serious view on the forced collection of traffic challans by traffic police on city roads. The court made it clear that while legal action against traffic violations is allowed, forcing vehicle owners to pay pending challans on the spot is illegal.

The High Court directed police not to stop vehicles on roads, seize keys, divert traffic, or harass commuters for pending challans. If vehicle owners voluntarily agree, fines can be collected; otherwise, authorities must follow due legal process by issuing notices.

This decision brings major relief to Hyderabad commuters who have long complained about harassment in the name of traffic challan recovery.
