Since historical ruffs require so much laundering and ironing, the theatrical ruff was created as an alternative that achieved a similar accessory that requires little to no maintenance - perfect for stage productions. Ruffs are great for all sorts of alternative fashions, especially lolita, royalcore, and romantic goth looks.
