Описание к видео Webinar: Anxiety in autistic people who speak few or no words

Anxiety is often experienced by autistic people and can be overlooked in those who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability and speak few or no words. This talk will discuss why anxiety is overlooked, discuss ways to spot the behavioural signs of anxiety, and describe what we have learnt from developing interventions to reduce anxiety in autistic children who speak few or no words. It will also consider anxiety and the family system. The webinar is aimed at a wide audience including parents, support workers, researchers, clinicians, and educators. At the end of the webinar, we will launch a toolkit of resources for clinicians and parents to access online.

In this webinar, we will be joined by Dr Jane Waite, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist from Aston University whose research focuses on improving the identification of anxiety, and subsequent support, in autistic individuals who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability; and Dr Jo Tarver, Dr Effie Pearson, Jess Mingins and Jess Hughes, who work as part of the Aston based research team driving forward the research in this area. The team have received research funding from Autistica, Cerebra and Aston University.
