To fix a loud PS4 in Rest Mode, the issue is often related to the fan running excessively due to heat, power settings, or background processes. Here’s how to address it:

Turn off your PS4 completely, unplug it, and place it in a well-ventilated area with 4-6 inches of clearance on all sides to avoid heat buildup. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean dust from the vents and fan, as dust can make the fan work harder and louder. Plug it back in after cleaning.

Go to the home screen, scroll up to Settings, and select Power Save Settings. Choose Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Toggle off Supply Power to USB Ports, as this can keep the system active and the fan running even in Rest Mode. Also, ensure Stay Connected to the Internet is on only if you need downloads, since background updates can trigger the fan.

From Settings, go to System, then Automatic Downloads, and uncheck Application Update Files and System Software Update Files if you don’t want updates running in Rest Mode, which can cause noise. Close all applications before entering Rest Mode by highlighting the app on the home screen, pressing Options, and selecting Close Application.

If the noise persists, reboot the console by turning it off fully, then hold the power button for 7 seconds until you hear a second beep to enter Safe Mode. Connect your controller via USB, select Rebuild Database, and let it finish to clear any corrupted data that might keep the system active.

After these steps, test Rest Mode by pressing the power button briefly until the light turns orange. The fan should quiet down if it’s not cooling residual heat or processing tasks. If it’s still loud, the fan or thermal paste might need professional attention, so consider contacting PlayStation Support.
