This year sees the 60th anniversary of Dante Duce in Mooneyes and Mickey Thompson in the Harvey Aluminum Special running at the Brighton Speed Trials in 1963. This was the first time American dragsters had come over to the UK. The RAC officials wouldn't allow side by side races as they didn't have front brakes fitted. Despite this Duce and Thompson put on a great show of wheelstands, smoky starts, parachute popping and haybales caught alight by Thompson’s exhausts, completely blowing the minds of the British spectators and the motoring press...
This year is also the 50th anniversary of the quickest quarter mile time ever recorded at Brighton when Dennis Priddle brought along his Mister Six Top Fuel Dragster in 1973 and smoked the full quarter mile in 7.69 seconds.
