Natural Dyeing with Mushrooms: Omphalotus olivascens (Western Jack o' Lantern)

Описание к видео Natural Dyeing with Mushrooms: Omphalotus olivascens (Western Jack o' Lantern)

Learn how to naturally dye using wild mushrooms with my very special guest, Dorothy Beebee -- my Mom! She has 50 years of natural dye experience, illustrated the original book "Let's Try Mushrooms for Color" and the recent "Mushrooms for Dyes, Paper, Pigment and Myco-stix" by Miriam Rice. She's a mushroom dye expert, and led mushroom dye workshops until just a few years ago. She's also my favorite person.

Mushrooms are a fascinating branch of the plant dye world. You can create a rainbow of natural dyes from this wild, botanical dye resource.

In this video we use a mushroom called the Western Jack o' Lantern (Omphalotus olivascens) to create forest green dyed wool.

Update! New blog post summarizing how we make purple and gray dyes using this mushroom:
