The company entered the Romanian market in 2005, following the takeover of the local operator Connex.[3] Currently, Vodafone is the second largest mobile operator in Romania, with 8.6 million customers at the end of 2014. [4] The company's main competitors are Orange, Telekom and RCS & RDS. As of April 1, 2020, Vodafone Romania has also become a provider of fixed telecommunications services, after the merger by absorption with the cable operator UPC Romania, taking over the subscribers of UPC. From the point of view of network coverage, the company's infrastructure allows access of over 99% of the Romanian population to its basic services.
