I think it’s important for current parents to be aware that Ginger’s parenting advice draws heavily from the nouthetic counseling movement and the spanking manuals of 1970s and 1980s American evangelicalism.

Ginger is an interesting parenting influencer because she is active in 2026, wrote her book in 2002, drawing from SACH’s popularity in the 1990s and the spanking manuals of the 1970s. Her advice iconically represents many of the recurring themes we explore in The Myth of Good Christian Parenting: How False Promises Betrayed a Generation of Evangelical Families.
