🌟 Rediscovering Nalanda University: From Ancient Glory to Modern Marvel 🌟

Once the largest university in the world, Nalanda University has reopened its doors to scholars from around the globe. Before we delve into the story of this new institution, let’s take a journey back in time to understand the historical significance of Nalanda Mahavira.

Founded in the 5th century by Kumar Gupta, Nalanda Mahavira was the world’s first residential university. It hosted over 10,000 students, attracting scholars from countries like China, Korea, and Indonesia. Alongside Buddhist studies, Nalanda offered courses in astronomy, mathematics, medicine, and more, making it a hub of diverse learning.

Tragically, this beacon of knowledge was destroyed in the 12th century by Bakhtiyar Khilji. Legend has it that the university’s famous library burned for three months. Rediscovered in 1811, the vision to revive Nalanda gained momentum in 2006 thanks to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Today, after an investment of ₹1,749 crore, the new Nalanda University stands ready to educate 1,900 students. This green campus is equipped with solar plants and water treatment facilities, reflecting modern sustainability practices. The revival of Nalanda is a collaborative effort between India and East Asian countries, aiming to restore its legacy as a global center of learning.
