A video circulating on social media shows a man, seemingly on a battlefield, pleading for help. Users claimed that the clip features a youth from Haryana who was allegedly forced to fight in Russia and was now appealing to the Indian government to ensure his safe return. In the emotional message, the man urges viewers to share the video widely so it reaches the authorities, claiming that an intense battle is underway and that his fellow soldiers have died, leaving him as the only survivor. Several users also alleged that the youth had been duped into travelling to Russia and was forced to join the ongoing conflict.

However, the Press Trust of India’s (PTI) Fact Check Desk investigated the video and found it to be AI-generated. It does not show any Indian national in distress, and the clip has been falsely shared as real to mislead viewers.

It is essential to clarify, however, that there are credible reports of Indian citizens being coerced into joining the Russian military to aid the country in its war against Ukraine. At least 44 Indian nationals are currently serving in the Russian Army. Many of them were reportedly taken to Russia under the pretext of studying in universities or securing jobs, but were later compelled to participate in the conflict.
