Gracie Fields talks about George Formby Senior -1975

Dame Gracie Fields recalls an incident from her childhood with George Formby Senior.

Gracie always cited Formby Senior as one of her greatest inspirations. She wrote in 1960: "The great George Formby senior ... was my favourite comedian and my idol. ... [M]y initials were the same as his, and I thought it an honour..."

She shared at least 3 bills with his son, the ukulele playing George Formby, in 1937 and 1938.

Recorded for the Russell Harty show in 1974 and broadcast in 1975.
