🔹Sangeetha Shikshana (music lessons) is an All India Radio (AIR) programme, that was produced and transmitted by Vijayawada radio station.
🔸This programme is presented by Dr. M Balamuralikrishna (BMK) in 4 parts and was broadcast in February 1987.
🔹Here, BMK teaches a composition of Saint Tyāgarāja – Mrudu Bhāshaña in the rāga Māruva Dhanyāsi, set to Ādi tālam.
🔸The music lessons are taught to Sri. D V Mohana Krishna (DVM)

❇️ Part 1 of 4 in a nutshell
After a brief introduction to the kriti, BMK succinctly explains the nuances of mūrchana ('ārōhaṇa' -'avarōhaṇa' of the rāga including the specifications of the 'gamakas' for each note) of the rāga Māruva Dhanyāsi and the calibration of ‘gamakas’ (the aesthetic ornamentation given to a musical note) for the rāga.

🔹We sincerely hope that these teaching sessions would facilitate all the earnest listeners, learners and connoisseurs of music to behold a new perspective in listening, learning and discovering some new ideas respectively.
🔸On listening to these teaching sessions, I am reminded of what Swami Chinmayananda said about the teacher and student and the process of teaching and learning.

🎯“A good teacher initiates the student with extreme kindness. He remembers that he himself was once a student and had his own quota of doubts and difficulties. By his volition of divinely kindness and godly sympathies together with a harmonious relationship with his student, the teacher becomes a conduit for the flow of knowledge and for the progress of the student.
At best, it can be said that, teaching is an unification of an attitude of sympathy, cooked in kindness, honeyed with love, and served on golden platters of understanding.”

💐 Acknowledgement
My sincere thanks and appreciation to Sri. N S Sarma of Guntur for his diligence in curating the original cassette tapes and for his spirit of sharing them for our music for posterity initiative.
