Goose Island is a mile long grass covered island just a short paddle off the Old Lyme bank of the Connecticut River. Every night in early fall, this tiny oasis hosts up to a half million tree swallows attaching birders from near and far to watch the birds gathers in huge flocks as they roost at night and then take off in the morning.
FOX61 photojournalist Freddie Matthis hopped aboard with Old Lyme resident Richard Shriver and his son to catch the morning spectacle.
