The idea of new emotions is a great way to jumpstart interest in Inside Out 2, and Anxiety was the perfect character to get the ball rolling. Few wouldn't relate to feeling frequently worried and insecure during the formative years of puberty, so it makes sense that this and other uncomfortable emotions would make their way into headquarters following Riley's 13th birthday. However, the problem here is that no other Inside Out characters were ever seen to have more than the five basic emotions that Riley already had.

Though their respective headquarters looked a little different, both Riley's parents were seen to have their own versions of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear in their heads. There was no sign of Anxiety or any other emotions teased in the Inside Out 2 trailer. At the end of Inside Out, the insides of other characters' heads were seen as well—Riley's teacher, the pizza-place employee, and even a cat and dog were all seen to have these same basic five emotions. This makes the addition of Anxiety a little confusing. All these characters (aside from the animals) have gone through puberty and other significant life changes, but from what we can see, they never gained these new emotions.
