Jokkmokk Winter Market – Jokkmokks Marknad is Sweden’s oldest and coldest market.
Finally, we could keep the more than 400-year-old tradition alive again in our village.
Jokkmokk Winter Market or Jokkmokks Marknad as it is called in Swedish is the oldest market in Sweden. Jokkmokk Market didn’t stop because of world wars and it didn’t stop because of different pandemics until Covid came over us. The festivities and market have been stopped and have only been digital for 2 years in a row.
Jokkmokk Market started in 1606 and was a way for the Swedish King to take control and be able to tax people and the Sami in the north back in the old days. Today it’s a meeting place for people from the north and for all of you who love Jokkmokk and Sapmi.
The winter market is all about handicrafts, exhibitions, storytelling, speeches on different cultural and nature subjects, and a lot of music and party as well.
