A Baseball Drill to Stop Players from Casting

In this video we teach players and coaches how to stop casting.

Hey, Coach Mark Ottens. How are you? This is a great question. Mark has several kids that are casting. "I've tried to correct it, but would like some tips to assist." Alright Coach Mark, Coach Steve's got the tee here, he's going to help you out, here we go.

So Coach Mark, an easy way to stay connected and keep your guys from casting is to set up a tee right here, get a bucket, you know get a cinder block. We've used pool noodles before. Anything really to stand up straight right here, to keep your guys from casting out and around the ball. Okay, so we're going to get set up, tee's on top of a bucket, and that's going to reinforce staying inside the ball. I'm going to set the tee up a little bit further out in front. Right down the middle. I'm trying to make contact out in front of my front foot.

I'm going to stay inside the ball and get to that position, because when this barrel gets away from by body I'm going to hit the tee, and when my bat path is coming out and around the ball I'm working towards third base and not in the direction of the pitch. Alright so again, set it up just outside the back foot, focus on staying inside the baseball, and that will allow your guys to really feel getting inside, instead of casting out and around.

I'll do it one more time here. Set up that tee just in front of their front foot. Tee right behind their back foot. Again, pool noodle. You can use PVC pipe, whatever you can to really keep their bat from getting out here, and focus on staying inside the baseball and that's going to allow them to swing through the ball, get good extension through it, instead of out and around it.
