She initially visited a physiotherapist thinking she might have arthritis in her hips. Her hips and back felt tight and sore, and even simple daily tasks like vacuuming or bending down to reach a bottom shelf were painful. Each time she bent over, she assumed she’d pulled something, only to stand up and realize it was just the usual stiffness and spasms that had become her norm. The discomfort was nearly constant—only relieved, temporarily, by taking pain pills.
Years earlier, around the age of 50, her physiotherapist sent her for a standing X-ray due to persistent symptoms. That’s when she was diagnosed with scoliosis.
In her early 50s, her scoliosis-related pain became increasingly difficult to manage. Though physiotherapy and massage provided brief relief, it would wear off within a few hours or days, depending on her activity level. At one point, she considered giving up golf. Her husband wasn’t ready to let that happen and took action. He searched online and found Dr. Tony, encouraging her to reach out.
What many scoliosis patients don’t realize is that their pain often stems from spinal compression. In adults, worsening spinal curvature tends to correlate with increasing pain levels. The more severe the compression, the more intense the discomfort becomes over time.
She was skeptical. “I’m not 12 anymore,” she said. “My bones aren’t as easy to move.” She decided to try just one week of treatment. “If it works, I’ll stay for week two,” she told Dr. Tony.
By the end of the first week, the results spoke for themselves.
Dr. Tony expressed confidence that he could reduce the spinal curves—not necessarily overnight, but gradually—and help improve her comfort, mobility, and reduce her dependence on medication.
Months later, she was completely off pain pills.
One of the key components of her treatment was decompression therapy, also called spinal elongation. This approach involves gently stretching the spine to relieve compression, reduce symptoms, and improve alignment. Elongation can lead to noticeable curve reduction regardless of age or curve size.
Treatment included stretching, muscle vibration to release tension, and specific spinal adjustments to guide the spine in the right direction. This combination, repeated consistently, made a major difference.
Now, daily chores are much easier. Tasks she once had to leave to her husband, she can now do on her own again. The improvements in her range of motion and daily function have been incredibly rewarding.
Seeing the reduction in her spinal curvature on paper and feeling the difference in her body brought a powerful realization: she didn’t think it was possible.
And yet, here she is.
