Surgery के बाद Cancer फिर से क्यों होता है? | Why Does Cancer Come Back? | Dr Praveen Kammar
What is cancer recurrence and how does it happen?
Cancer recurrence means the disease comes back after treatment. It may return where the surgery was done which is called locoregional recurrence, or in a different part of the body which is called distant recurrence.
Why does cancer come back after surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy?
During surgery microscopic cancer cells known as micrometastasis can remain behind. Radiation sometimes cannot reach and destroy deeply placed cancer cells. Chemotherapy works on rapidly dividing cells but over time cancer cells can adapt and develop resistance.
What does successful cancer treatment really mean?
Successful treatment does not always mean cure. It means that visible cancer has been controlled or removed, but hidden cells may still survive and later cause the disease to return.
Why do different patients have different outcomes?
The biological behavior of cancer cells and tumor heterogeneity explain why two patients with the same stage and same cancer type can have very different results.
What increases the risk of recurrence?
The stage of cancer at diagnosis, microscopic spread that is not detected, and patient related factors such as immunity and stress all play a role in whether cancer comes back.
How can cancer recurrence be prevented or managed?
The most important steps are early detection by paying attention to any changes in health, regular follow up with your oncologist according to the cancer follow up protocol, and taking treatment from the right specialists.
