The current-generation Jetta GLI was introduced for the 2019 model year and is a good balance of value and performance. You can get it with a either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and it'll go from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. I enjoyed this one, but would still probably prefer a GTI, given its more practical hatchback bodystyle, not to mention more premium cabin. Either way, VW has nearly perfected the small performance car formula.
