Hundreds gathered in Kansas City to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk. A prayer vigil was held at Mill Creek Park on The Plaza. Those at the vigil said they were there to pray for others, the country and Kirk.

Friends, pastors and community members prayed, worshipped and reflected on Kirk’s life.

“One of the things about Charlie Kirk was how intentional he was to support and foster friendships with thousands of people,” said Seth Gruber, a friend of Kirk. “Many people felt that Charlie was their voice, giving voice to their belief they weren’t able to defend.”

Pastor Kelly Lohrke of The Cure Church urged the crowd to reject violence and political hostility.

“It’s horrible. But I think all politicians, whether you’re a Republican or Democrat, they need to tone it down,” Lohrke said. “There are people that are just watching social media, and their brains are getting fed up with this, and they’re acting out on what they’re watching.”

Pastors told attendees that people from all walks of life should turn to one another in faith.
