A lot of people tell me they want to set up an African cichlid tank but don't have the budget for big tanks.

So, I decided to do a budget-friendly 2.5 feet African cichlid tank setup without using expensive rocks to help people on a tight budget.

It will be a malawi cichlid tank, and I've already ordered a few malawi cichlids for it that will outgrow it at some point. I could've chosen some lake tanganikan cichlids that won't outgrow a 2.5ft tank, but since it's a budget-friendly setup, I chose some affordable malawi species.

The fish I've ordered are small in size, and there are plenty of hiding spots in this tank, so aggression will likely be controlled. Throughout this series, I'll discuss the challenges one could face with small African cichlid aquariums, and I'll also discuss when it's the right time to get a bigger setup for them. It will be a fun series, so stay tuned for more updates!
