Rancho's chlorine-free, solar powered infinity pool, adjacent to Madre Tierra restaurant, overlooks the lush green hills and valleys of western Panama, providing guests with an ideal location to relax, suntan and read a book.

With outside temperatures consistently in the mid-80s, the pool is a refreshing place to spend an hour or a day. There are two sections, one of which is 40' long for swimming laps. The other section has a shallow end that is 1' deep, and houses four comfortable lounge chairs, allowing guests a "half-in/half-out" relaxing pool experience - with or without sun umbrellas.

Rancho de Caldera Activities

At Rancho de Caldera you can enjoy activities including hiking, birding, cloud watching, lounging by the pool, swimming, massages, and yoga. If you'd like to get out and explore Chiriqui, try these Boquete area activities.
Birding

At Rancho de Caldera there are many, many types of birds for bird-watching enthusiasts; the type and variety are somewhat different than those seen in the higher elevations of Boquete. Binoculars are a must for serious bird watchers!
Massage

A couple of excellent, trained massage and therapists live close by and provide massages for guests in the villas or out on the porches.

Cloud Watching

"Activities" would not be complete without a few words on "cloud watching". The views change constantly here, especially in the rainy season; clouds move in and out, up and down, fill the skies with rain and/or completely hide the mountains and Rancho de Caldera. At sunrise and sunset, the clouds turn many shades of orange and pink. We highly recommend sitting on the porch and watching the weather - it is a glorious way to spend a few hours or a few days!


Yoga

Our bungalows face the rising sun. Serenaded by joyous bird song, the Yoga practitioners among our guests can greet the new day with a real sun salutation on their covered terrace! Or if you prefer, bring your mat, take a short walk and use our outdoor Yoga pavillon. We plan to offer Yoga classes, retreats and workshops in the pavillon.
Room Types

There are 9 standard and deluxe rooms at Rancho de Caldera, with 2 additional discount rooms. The standard and deluxe rooms all have a 20' wall of glass facing east, which is ideal for viewing the sunrise from the comfort of bed. Other amenities include a microwave oven, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, TV, A/C, free wireless Internet, and iPod docking station. Further, these rooms all have large, walk-out, covered porches, which are ideal for drinking coffee and watching the clouds drift in and out, bird-watching, enjoying a siesta, reading a book, or watching the horses romp in the fields.

Our goal at Rancho de Caldera is to be completely self-sustainable by producing everything ourselves; electricity, biodiesel, produce, meats, cheeses and animal forage. We want to serve as a model for those interested in independent living in a world of dwindling resources. The road to that goal is long and bumpy but information is plentiful and like-minded people are all around us, graciously offering their knowledge and skills.
