How to Clean & Prime Bare Concrete | Dulux Concrete & Paving

Concrete & Paving surfaces absorb various types of liquids such as water, petrol oil and brake fluid. If your concrete or paving surface is not properly cleaned, concrete coatings will have a difficult time adhering to the surface.

For bare concrete and paving, it is important to etch the surface with Dulux Concrete & Paving Bare Concrete Etch & Clean prior to priming. This will remove the laitance layer present on the surface of new and aged concrete and roughen the surface to provide a key for paint.

To achieve a coloured finish, our water-based primer must be applied. Both primers ensure your Concrete & Paving Stage 3 Finish is provided with the best possible surface to bond to. Which primer you need, will depend on whether you have bare concrete or a sealed surface. The Bare Concrete Primer will penetrate through the concrete surface to fill pores, reinforce the surface, and provide an even surface for the topcoat to adhere to.
