Sometimes bolts break when working on outboards, even if heat was applied and great care was taken, they still break. Helicoil thread repair is a good option to fix these annoying broken bolts. The bolts must be drilled out directly down the centre as outboard blocks are aluminium. If the holes is drilled to one side, once you get up to a size that starts to break out of the steel bolt and into the aluminium it will chew sideways to find the softer aluminum.
