Описание к видео Danda Nacha - KELA KELUNI KHUBEL (କେଳା କେଲୁଣୀ, ଦଣ୍ଡନାଚ) PART 2

The Kela Keluni (କେଳା କେଲୁଣୀ) is an ancient duet dance and a part of Danda Nacha or Danda Nrutya or Danda Jatra in Odisha. The dance involves fast, swaying movements of legs, hips, and the head2. It’s performed by the Kela people, who are traditionally snake-charmers. The Kela people traditionally earned a living by catching snakes and birds.

The word ‘Kela’ has been derived from the word ‘kala’, which means ‘black’ in Odia. The Kela people are a scheduled caste in Odisha and they speak in Oriya. Some of them trap birds and sell them, some practice snake charming, while others work for the government. Watch the famous Khubel kela keluni dance and enjoy the song and the lyrics.
