The Big Bang Theory suggests that the universe began approximately 13.8 billion years ago as an infinitely dense and hot singularity. This moment marked the rapid expansion of space-time, releasing immense energy and forming the basic building blocks of matter. Over time, the universe cooled, allowing subatomic particles like protons, neutrons, and electrons to combine, creating hydrogen and helium. These elements coalesced under gravity to form stars and galaxies.

Around 4.6 billion years ago, within a spinning cloud of gas and dust (a solar nebula), our solar system began to form. Gravity caused the material to collapse into a spinning disk. At its center, the Sun ignited due to nuclear fusion, while remaining material aggregated into planets, moons, and other celestial bodies.

The Earth formed through accretion, as rocky debris collided and stuck together. Early Earth was a molten mass that gradually cooled, developing a crust, oceans, and an atmosphere. The Moon likely formed around 4.5 billion years ago when a Mars-sized body, Theia, collided with Earth. The debris from this impact coalesced into the Moon. This event also tilted Earth's axis, contributing to the planet’s seasons, and played a critical role in stabilizing Earth's orbit over billions of years.
