This game is insane. It is a remake of an even more old game called Crystal Quest. Second part have some additional monsters and stars (which are not shown in this video, they appears much later in game).

Each odd level you meet new type of monsters with their own behaviour.
It is not my best gameplay either, because I have not played it for years.
