Almost every other book I pick up these days is “the first in a brand new trilogy!!!” Why are creators—and financers—so obsessed with trilogies?

Just a few rambling thoughts about why we feel some sort of affinity toward trilogies as a form as well as some thoughts on a couple of different distinct types of trilogies.
