The only lightning NOT visible in daylight is the intracloud variety. However, in twilight, moonlight, and dark skies, this phenomena becomes impressive. Against the backdrop of stars and towering cumulonimbus clouds, lightning often becomes continuous in time lapse.


Most of these clips contain lightning discharges without visible lightning (bolts). Most exposures (per frame) were ~6 seconds. I'd consider that frequency short enough for the storm to have continuous lightning.
