How do we clean a 600-year-old painting? | Uccello's Battle of San Romano | National Gallery

Restorer Paul Ackroyd talks us through some of the challenges he encountered while working on the conservation of Paolo Uccello's famous 15th-century battlefield scene, 'The Battle of San Ramano'.

Paul assesses the 'before' state of the painting and shows us how, after removing the discoloured varnish, the gleaming whites and shiny silvers emerge.
