Welcome back to beard questions, our video series answering all things beard! For this video, we answered the question "How to trim a beard", and more importantly, how to trim a beard yourself as that's what you guys want to know!

Trimming a beard can be tough, especially at first. So the first rule of thumb is to TAKE YOUR TIME. You never want to be in a rush when you are trying to trim and style your beard. I personally recommend setting aside 20-30 minutes of focussed time so you can get a proper trim.

Also, you want to style your beard before you trim. That means go through whatever grooming process you do daily to ensure your beard looks the way it will daily so you know what you need to trim off. For me, I wash my beard daily with our beard wash, follow with beard oil, and finish with beard butter. This gives my beard everything it needs to grow healthier and better, and look and smell great.

If you're looking for a beard trimmer, these are the trimmers I've used personally.

When it comes to getting into the trimming, I recommend starting by lining up your beard and defining the beard lines. The top line is the line connecting your sideburn to your mustache, and that line should be left as high as naturally possible.

The back line is a bit trickier which is why I used a second mirror to see what I'm doing. The idea is to run the line off the back of your sideburn straight down so it's nice and tight, and not growing back towards the back of your neck.

The final line is your neckline. Now this line is often gone wrong as many guys trim this line on their jawline, and that is much too high. You want to trim where your head connects to your neck, which is usually just above your adams apple.

Once you've defined your beard lines, it's time to actually trim and shape your beard!

The biggest tip I can give you is to treat your beard like a hedge. Work with your electric beard trimmers or scissors to work from the outside, and sculpt your bead back to the desired shape!
