Glazunov - Theme and Variations Op.72

Recorded today on december 21, 2019, Alexander Glazunov's magnificent Theme and Variations Op.72, written in St.Petersburg in 1900. I decided to do a video with score because, as far as I could find, one was not yet available on YouTube.

This is one of my all time favorite sets of variations, which I must have known for at least 40 years. Admittedly I have a soft spot for Glazunov, and really do not understand why he is not considered one of the major Russian composers. He was not primarily a piano composer but nonetheless an excellent pianist, and in his piano works, which are all very rewarding, he could roar, whisper and glitter with the best of them.

Despite long exposure and lengthy preparation, I could not get my recording 100% squeaky clean. Some variations are very difficult and my amateur technique occasionally falls short. But I think there is nothing really horrible here :)
