2024 Chevy 2500 6.6L DURAMAX DIESEL (L5P) Fuel Economy Test | Are EMISSIONS Causing Lower MPG??

Описание к видео 2024 Chevy 2500 6.6L DURAMAX DIESEL (L5P) Fuel Economy Test | Are EMISSIONS Causing Lower MPG??

I review a 2024 Chevy 2500 6.6L Duramax Diesel L5P Engine and see what kind of real world Fuel economy (mpg) these new duramax engines are getting. I explain why Emission , DEF and increased DPF Regens may be causing worse fuel economy in these new engines then in older duramax diesel engines.

To cap off this mini series with this brand new 2024 Duramax second gen L5P diesel engine, I figured we would put this HD chevy 2500 on my fuel economy loop because I had heard rumblings of this new truck and second gen L5P duramax diesel getting rather poor fuel economy in comparison to the first gen older L5P duramax diesel engines.

My fuel economy loup consists of city MPG and Highway MPG to get a good real world fuel economy combined MPG.

diesel engine naturally are more fuel efficient then gasoline engines for 2 major reason, the first reason is because diesel fuel has more energy in it then gas.

the second reason and more important reason is that diesel engines are have better thermal efficiency then gas engines. meaning diesel engines are better at transferring chemical energy into mechanical energy. they do this by utilizing higher compression ratios thus making diesel engines simply more efficient.

so dispite this HD chevy 2500 weighing over 8,300lbs it can still be an efficient truck.

the one issues with the modern diesel engine however is the emission systems that certainly have an impact on fuel economy. the number one reason is because of DPF regens. this happene when the diesel particulate filter get full of soot and need to burn it off the engine will use a greater amount of fuel to elevate exhaust temps and well this hurts fuel economy big time.

overall we finished with about 18.5 MPG which in my books is not bad!

Hope you guys liked the video!
