I'm in zone 6 (Southern Ontario, Canada). But my fall garden checklist applies to all fellow gardeners in zones with winter frost. Look up your first expected frost date and plan accordingly.

Week -6: COLD-HARDY VEGGIES - succession sowing of cold-hardy greens to enjoy in winter. Plant garlic too.
Week -4: PERENNIAL GARDEN CARE - plant spring-flowering bulbs, move/divide/trim perennials.
Week -2: WINTER PROTECTION - apply mulch to protect the perennial garden.
Week -1: WATER OFF FURNITURE IN - turn off water, drain pipes, store outdoor items.
Week 0: FIRST EXPECTED FROST

Week 3: FALLEN LEAVES - collect/compost/shred fallen leaves.
