Apah is the deity of the Purva Ashadha native, the goddess of the waters in the Vedic Hindu pantheon. She is considered to be one of the vasus, the 'elemental deities' relating to 'bhum,' the earthy tattvas (5 elements). Apah is the goddess of cohesion, compassion, togetherness, strength in unity, and bears the feminine 'yin' qualities and characteristics of water. She is considered in many ways to be the mother of the deities, and is often referenced specifically as the mother of the vasudevas (which rules the next nakshatra, Uttara Ashadha).
Purification and initiation are key themes of this nakshatra, as well as 'bringing people together (varcah) towards a common goal (samitir).' Water has great power, the most unconquerable power, when it 'comes together and flows;' and likewise, nothing is more powerful than people coming together with a shared purpose. People under her influence are known for collecting similar themes within scattered groups and integrating them into a succinct whole (samitir).
This is a video describing Purva Ashadha Nakshatra from 3 particular texts:
-"Nakshatra: The Authentic Hearth of Vedic Astrology," by Vic Dicara
-"Energies of the 27 Nakshatras," by Ernst Wilhelm
-"The Divine forces of the Lunar Nakshatras," by Radhe
The Nakshatras are as Vic Dicara puts it "The authentic Heart of Vedic Astrology." We could really say that the Nakshatras are like bones or a seed, whereas the Zodiac, with its 12 signs and rulerships of the planets, are more like the soil, the flesh on the bone. The flesh of the signs can only manifest upon the skeleton of the Nakshatras.
With regard to interpreting the effects of Nakshatras cleanly and purely, both Vic Dicara and Ernst Wilhelm have significantly emphasized a certain commentary on the Krishna Yajur-veda called "The Taitteriya Brahmana," which contains 27 enigmatic sutras describing the nature of the DEITIES WHICH RULE THE NAKSHATRAS.
We will also explore 4 traditional characteristics given to each Nakshatra.
Finally we will delve into the writings of the author "Radhe" in order to explore her extensively researched book, "Divine Forces of the Lunar Nakshatras as portrayed in the Vedas." This book is full of great research into the stories and fundamental background behind the character of the deities associated with each Nakshatra, and this is why I have included it in this series of readings.
