International Week of the Deaf is celebrated annually by the global Deaf Community on the last week of September each year to commemorate the first World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf in Rome in 1958.

This video was created by Padmavashini. M, II BSc Psychology, Dr. MGR-Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women, Chennai to create awareness about the deaf community and the issues faced by them.

Generally the community may have misconceptions, ignorance and
superstitions which govern their reactions to the hearing impaired and the
rehabilitation efforts by various agencies. The hearing impaired have lots of abilities and they need acceptance and equal opportunities.

Together we can foster the society's acceptance of an individual's hearing impairment and creating a positive environment for every individual with hearing loss.
