The major 2-5-1 progression is one of the most important patterns in jazz (along with minor 2-5-1s). In this video, we go over the first pattern of major 2-5-1 drills for ukulele in GCEA tuning. This pattern can be played with or without the use of barrre chords, but it's a great way to get started practicing barre chords. Don't expect to master barre chords overnight, but you can get there with practice! In the meantime, I show you an alternative involving all four fingers, so you can hear the progression properly and get a clean sound while you work on getting stronger at barre chords.

Don't forget to download the free zip file with charts and a backing track in all 12 keys which I've made for you to practice with. Do these drills just six minutes a day (or every other day) and you will see real improvement. We'll work on other inversions for pattern 2, 3 and 4 and you'll eventually build up lots of ways to play the same progression. Don't forget to watch the video "Getting the most out of 2-5-1 practice" to make sure you're anchoring in not just the sounds but the names of the chords and the geography of the fretboard.
