King Arthur: The Legendary King


It is believed that Arthur was a Briton leader who lived in the 6th century. Historically, he is remembered as a leader who united the native people against Saxon invasions after the Romans withdrew from Britain. However, the King Arthur we know today is largely based on Geoffrey of Monmouth's "Historia Regum Britanniae" (1136). This work introduced the legendary tales of Arthur's origins, Camelot, and the wizard Merlin. The Sword in the Stone Legend: Arthur, as a young boy, proves himself to be the rightful king of Britain by pulling a magical sword (Excalibur) from a stone. This act demonstrates to the people that he was chosen by God to lead. The Knights of the Round Table: In Camelot, Arthur establishes a fellowship known as the "Round Table." This table symbolizes equality and justice. Among its most famous knights are Sir Lancelot, Sir Gawain, and Sir Galahad. The Quest for the Holy Grail: Arthur and his knights embark on a quest to find the Holy Grail, considered sacred in Christianity as the cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper. This journey is seen as both a physical and spiritual endeavor. Tragic Love and Betrayal: Arthur’s wife, Guinevere, has a forbidden love affair with his closest friend, Sir Lancelot. This betrayal marks the beginning of Camelot's downfall, weakening Arthur’s rule and giving his enemies an opportunity to strike. The Final Battle with Mordred: Arthur faces his illegitimate son or enemy, Mordred, in a climactic battle where he is gravely wounded. According to some versions, Arthur is taken to the Isle of Avalon after his death, with the prophecy that he will one day return to save Britain.
