3 Years Later - The Synology DS1821+

Описание к видео 3 Years Later - The Synology DS1821+

This is my DS1821+ which I’ve had now for nearly 3 years! I’m going to let you know my thoughts over this time, how I use it, what drives I use with it and general overall performance.

The Synology DS1821+ currently lives in my office and runs near silently I’m please to report. It’s been faultless for nearly 3 years and does what it’s supposed to do with no complaints.

I’ve kitted this NAS out with pure SSD storage, NVME storage pools and 10GBE networking. I use only SSD storage because it’s silent, fast and runs on very little power.

In terms of 10GBE networking I could easily live without it. I’ve used this NAS for video editing but it can suffer from lag and stutters when editing directly on the NAS so I simply use an external SSD drive on my local machine and then transfer projects for storage and backup to the NAS once I’m done via a USB cable. Works well for me. Sometimes I’m lazy and copy over the network using 10GBE, but as I’ve said, I could easily live without it.

For storage I’m using a combination SATA SSDs like the low cost but great Crucial MX500 and the amazing Samsung 870 EVO. These are now very affordable and fantastic drives.

So for services I use my Synology DS1821+ for storing video files, important family photos and videos, client backups that we want to store off site for extra redundancy, phone backups, network drives for my computer and the scanner, docker containers and lots more. It really is a very versatile little NAS that you can keep running 24/7 with confidence it will just keep running and doing its thing.

I’m very happy with my Synology NAS and would buy it again if I needed to.

Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next one.
