Scottish Bothy Ballad song - The Hash O'Bennagoak

Scottish Buchan bothy ballad song or Cornkister, The Hash o' Bennagoak was written by, George Smith Morris (1876-1958). G.S. Morris (AKA The Buchan Cheil) was born in Aberdeen and later moved to Oldmeldrum after marrying the sister of his musical friend Willie Kemp, also a well known bothy ballad writer. (AKA The King of the Cornkisters)

I remember my granfather, a farmer from near Turriff ( Mains of Idoch ) singing this song when i was a child. He sang a lot of the bothy ballads and seen Tam Reid many times when he was in Turra. I knew Tam later on from visiting the Garlogie Ceilidh afternoon's in the early 1990's but I didn't hear his version till years later on a CD. It's also on YouTube.

I hope you like my newer version of this traditional classic tune, one of many from my, and my mums childhood. I hope it stays alive for a few more generations. :-)

A few years ago I also recorded Aikey Brae, another of GS Morris's tunes. A short vesrion anmd teh full lenght version. We also created a short film of Aikey Brae with Iron Broo and Duncan Harley, which was shortlisted in 2019 Doric Film Festival.
