Street Fighter V has had its share of great players, but no one player ever been able to claim dominance over its competitive scene. Entering the fourth season of Capcom Cup, the biggest summer events of the Capcom Pro Tour season, Community Effort Orlando (aka CEO) and Evolution (aka Evo), had never seen a repeat winner. One might think that a SFV win at CEO would be a sign of future success. Instead? Just one of the three CEO winners even made Top 8 at the subsequent Evo.

To find the last time the double was achieved, you had to dip back into the annals of Street Fighter IV, all the way back to 2013, when Singapore’s Xian won CEO 2013 and Evo 2013 to fully establish his presence as one of the greatest Street Fighter players in the world.

Winning those two major tournaments in one run was unprecedented enough — but to win four straight Capcom Pro Tour events, featuring a global pool of the world's best competitors, back-to-back-to-back-to-back? That was unheard of.

In the summer of 2019, Masato "Bonchan" Takahashi changed all that. At CEO 2019, VSFighting 2019, Evo 2019 and Celtic Throwdown, Bonchan ripped off a smoldering four-tournament win streak that is arguably the greatest run in Street Fighter history. With skillful Karin play, inspired by a then-upstart Punk, and a pocket Sagat that called back to his top moments in Street Fighter IV, Bonchan came out on top in four major tournaments that pitted him against the world's top players like Momochi, Fujimura, Dogura, NL, Infexious, Punk, iDom, Big Bird and more.
