The village of Kiriteshwari, home to one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, is famous for the Kiriteshwari Temple, a top destination for tourism in India. The temple is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and Kali, but outside of the temple, Durga Puja and Kali worship are not observed in the village. Here, Goddess Kiriteshwari is worshipped in various forms, sometimes as Durga and sometimes as Dakshina Kali. The villagers themselves initiated the Jagaddhatri Puja, which the entire village of Kiritkona eagerly awaits each year. For the past 39 years, the Kiriteshwari Tarun Samiti has been organizing the Jagaddhatri Puja, bringing vibrant festive colors to the village.
