Brudenell Piano Sessions featuring
Gwenno Morgan,
Phellotape,
Ieva Dubova,
hosted and curated by Simeon Walker.

Since its beginnings for Piano Day in March 2018, Brudenell Piano Sessions has grown into a consistently captivating, regular part of Leeds’ thriving music scene. Celebrating the wide variety of music composed for and performed on the piano, each show offers curious music fans an opportunity to make new musical discoveries; experience a range of genres and musical styles combined together in one lineup; to challenge perceptions about what, where and how certain forms of music can be encountered - all in a relaxed, friendly, engaging and inviting atmosphere.

Founded by pianist & composer and University of Leeds alum Simeon Walker, these live music events provide opportunities for young and emerging piano-based musicians, performers and composers from across the musical spectrum to perform new, original music alongside other established artists, to a captive, supportive and encouraging audience of dedicated music lovers. Born out of Brudenell Social Club - one of the UK’s most iconic grassroots music venues - BPS is a celebration of good music, good people and good times, gathered around the piano. It’s piano music, for everyone.

A classically trained pianist based in London, Leeds-graduate Gwenno Morgan was raised on the doorstep of Snowdonia, the beautiful landscape and its nature shaping and inspiring her writing process. As part of her piano performance studies at the University of Leeds, she also spent a year exploring aspects of jazz at the University of North Texas, before completing a Master’s in creative composition at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Originally from Cesis in Latvia, now based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Ieva Dubova is an award-winning pianist and composer known for her experimental, new age approach to classical music, performance and collaborative work. A graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, she has performed across Europe, held multiple radio appearances, and collaborated with artists from multiple disciplines. Her recent works have been featured on BBC Introducing and BBC Sounds as well as on Radio Resonance and Exhale FM. Her latest collection of Piano Preludes have been Premiered in Germany by noted concert pianist Anna Heller as part of the Moving Classics TV programme - Composer of the Week, and Elena Cobb Star prize at The Royal Albert Hall.

Phellotape is a brand new project for two Manchester-based musicians: self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades and Leeds-graduate Alice Phelps, and multi-instrumentalist and producer, Tom Twemlow. Weaving together wide-ranging influences including Feist, Andrew Bird, Blake Mills and Madison Cunningham, Phellotape explores the complexities of love, lust, and living with loss. Sometimes intricately-woven and delicate, sometimes heavy-hitting and raw, their songs are delivered with equal parts wry wit and sincerity. One thing is for certain - Phellotape’s music will get stuck in your head.
