How to Test FET?

Описание к видео How to Test FET?

Field Effect Transistor (FET) Checking method, #Shorts
By using DMM (Digital Multimeter) we can check the FETs, whether they are OK or Faulty,
Using DMM's Diode test mode,

There are two types of FET's
1) P-channel FET, and 2) N-channel FET
FET's have three terminals Gate, Source, and Drain,

N-channel FET checking method:

If we connect the Red probe of DMM to the Gate of a FET, and the Black probe of DMM to the Drain and Source of the FET one by one, Then the internal battery of DMM makes the PN junctions inside the FET in forward-biased condition, So the DMM display shows a voltage drop of 0.5 to 0.8 volts,

If we Reverse the DMM probes means by connecting the Black probe to Gate and the Red probe to Drain and Source of the FET one by one, Then the PN junctions inside the FET gets reverse-biased, Hence the DMM displays OL (Overload) reading.

Also, check the reading between Drain and Source terminals, DMM must shows less than 10 Kilo-ohms reading,

P-Channel FET checking method:

Checking of P-channel FET is Just opposite to the N-channel FET,
If we connect the Black probe of DMM to the Gate of a FET, and the Red probe of DMM to the Drain and Source of the FET one by one, Then the internal battery of DMM makes the PN junctions inside the FET in forward-biased condition, So the DMM display shows a voltage drop of 0.5 to 0.8 volts,

If we Reverse the DMM probes means, by connecting the Red probe to Gate and the Black probe to Source and Drain of the FET one by one, Then the PN junctions inside the FET gets reverse-biased, Hence the DMM displays OL (Overload) reading.

Also, check the reading between Drain and Source terminals, DMM must shows less than 10 Kilo-ohms reading,

If the FET passes all these tests then we can consider the FET "OK",
