ABSN Program Director Lindsey Carlson and Associate Dean of Nursing/Chief Academic Administrator of Nursing Kristina Henry, joined by Hybrid ABSN Students Carly Tomlin and Abbey Clark, to share their goals, experiences and what students can expect from Rockhurst University’s Hybrid Accelerated BSN program.

Rockhurst University's Hybrid ABSN program is a full-time 16-month program with online coursework and hands-on clinicals, with full clinical placement services provided at no additional charge. The Hybrid ABSN program is delivered by the Saint Luke’s™ College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Lindsey Carlson, ABSN Program Director: “We saw a need in rural and underserved areas to make nursing education accessible, and so that was a big part of our motivation to start a hybrid program.

“Our goal is that they get a Rockhurst education. And what that means is being part of a community here at Rockhurst while they are working in their home communities towards their nursing degrees.”

Kristina Henry, Associate Dean of Nursing and Chief Academic Administrator of Nursing: “We start at the beginning and lead you through every critical aspect of becoming a nurse, from mentoring and networking to passing your boards, every potential thing that's part of that development as a new nurse.”

Abbey Clark, Hybrid Accelerated Bachelor of Science (ABSN) Student: “What appealed to me was the from-home aspect because you would just come here for 10 days, do your residency, do your clinicals.”

Carly Tomlin, Hybrid Accelerated Bachelor of Science (ABSN) Student: “You could do it from just about anywhere, and it means that we have a family that is even outside of the Rockhurst in Kansas City location.”

Lindsey Carlson: “Something students really like is the hands-on learning aspect of it, and the on-campus residency is really where that all begins for them.

“Students will experience a realistic introduction into the nursing profession during their time here on campus. We are in clinical sites, we're in simulation.”

Carly Tomlin: “You invest into your future when you join this program, and so that's how you’ve got to look at this one and a half years is that you're bettering your future.”

Abbey Clark: “It is definitely fast-paced, so make sure that you're prepared for that. It's a lot of hard work, but it's really worth it.”

Lindsey Carlson: “Our faculty here are top-notch. They are passionate about helping students be successful.”

Abbey Clark: “You have these very intelligent professors and they are giving you all the tools that you need.”

Kristina Henry: “We also have the NCLEX success coaches, where they coach the students one-on-one until they take their boards.”

Lindsey Carlson: “I believe our students will impact the world for the better. They have a true desire and passion to care for others when they need it the most. You care for a patient, you're caring for their family, you're caring for a community and to show up and do what it takes to earn that degree and then go out and provide that care, you're laying the groundwork for a phenomenal impact.”
