Why Does My Diesel Smoke So Badly Part 2: Start with Simple and Inexpensive

Part 2 of an ongoing series to find the problem. I have in my shop a very nice Mercedes W123 turbo diesel station wagon that has recently had a rebuilt engine installed. The engine runs great with fairly good power, but it smokes black smoke to high heaven when accelerating. What could be wrong? The owner who is a friend of mine finally admitted he really does not like driving it because he is embarrassed about the smoke coming out of the tail pipe. So in this video I will explain a couple simple and inexpensive things you can start with.
