More than a Canal: a History of the Panama Hat

Emblematic of hot weather style, the Panama is, counter-intuitively a straw hat from Ecuador, woven from a very spectial local straw. Some of the finest can go for thousands of dollars, though cheap versions can also be found in many a tourist area. And it was added in 2012 to UNESCO's immaterial heritage list.

The panama hat I wear in this video was indeed made in Ecuador and very kindly brought back to me from Panama by my aunt and uncle.
