As of right now, this Speck case is the highest rated case on my Top 10 list. If you’re looking for a wonderfully grippy case that offers better than average drop-protection, the Speck Presidio GRIP is for you!

But if you hate marketing fluff, if you hate the lies that companies spew out of their PR holes as much I do, you might want to pass on the Grip.

Why? 10 ft.

For my Speck Presidio GRIP review, I’ve given this case a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. It is currently the best case on my Top 10 list but that list constantly changes as I get new products. Similarly ranked products include the Spigen Tough Armor and Ballistic Jewel cases.

For design, the Presidio GRIP is an evolution of the Speck CandyShell grip which was awesome. The CandyShell Grip was one of my goto cases for people who wanted something with texture. With the Presidio GRIP, Speck replaced the CandyShell’s glossy back that scratched quite easily with a matte-finished shell which reduces the wear/tear that shows up on the case.

The case is surprisingly thin as it clocked in at 10.7 mm’s which is just below the average 10.8 mm’s and the weight of the case isn’t noticeable. I’ve come across cases that are 1.5 times the size that technically offer 1/2 the protection. The Presidio GRIP fits well together as the Impactium TPU fuses tightly with the polycarbonate shell. The Impactium oozes out the back of the case but these oozed ridges provide a superior grip on the case. They grip also prevents the iPhone from sliding around on a flat surface. On the CandyShell Grips that I’ve seen, the ridges may start to peel over time but I’m going to chalk that up to normal usage.

Using the iPhone 7 in the case is an absolute joy in the case. The ridges work well with your grip and they don’t feel sticky like other grippy cases like the Tech 21 Evo Mesh.

For protection, the Impactium Shock barrier is suppose to absorb and disperse shock. And does it? Everything in their marketing fluff shows impact from the corner but what about a face first drop? Well, the iPhone you’re seeing in all the closeups is the same iPhone 7 Plus that I dropped before this review. In terms of dust and debris protection, the buttons of the iPhone are covered but there isn’t any extra protection for the ports. Screen protection is decent as the edges of the case are quite high but don’t do anything for the screen at 10 ft and are high enough to accommodate thicker than average screen protectors.

Getting to your iPhone is a breeze in the Speck Presidio Grip. The buttons are easy to get to, I didn’t have any issues accessing the screen or any of the hardware pieces on the iPhone. One-handed usage is great even with the giant iPhone 7.

Again, good case but as I said at the beginning of the video, do you really want to give your hard earned money to a company who is over-selling the capabilities of their product? Do you really want to give your money to a company’s whose claim is untrue when it comes to protecting your $1000 dollar iPhone? As a responsible consumer, I might not.
